Finally, I laughed! Once.

2/5

I've watched all three episodes of this series so far, and hadn't found them all that funny or interesting. But the end of this one, the "carapace" joke followed by the diagram really got me good.

(The next part applies to all three episodes)

The animation and voices are top-notch and the sound is good as well, but the premise is silly and the characters aren't all that interesting or funny. Most of the jokes fall flat (with that one exception). There's potential here - I just hate to see good animation skills go to waste.

Bland and unimaginative

1/5

I don't know how this got to the front page, but it's definitely not front page material. The animation is just flat and bland and looks cheap. I don't know if you were trying to imitate the similarly flat, cookie-cutter animation style of the 70's, but it didn't work. It just looks like you took a bunch of cheap shortcuts.

The sound was pretty hard to listen to. The music was bad and the voices were passable, but the sound quality was awful. Subtitles would be a good option here, but the dialogue was so stereotypical and obvious that I wouldn't want to have to listen to it _and_ read it.

The story was derivative - sometimes this can work if you're making a parody, but this was played straight and had none of the fun of those early superhero cartoons. There just wasn't any imagination present in the animation or the writing. And worst of all, it was just boring. Who wants to see something like this on TV when there are already so many better alternatives in the superhero genre?

Crappy in a GOOD way...

2/5

The "animation" is crappy, and the audio isn't anything to write home about, but for some reason it works. The story, being made up as it goes along, is very funny. I actually laughed out loud a couple times. I don't know if good animation would make this any better - it is what it is. But it was kind of fun to watch, and sometimes that's all I want from a Flash cartoon.

TomSka responds:

Haha thanks... I think...

Great animation, lousy lyrics

3/5

I liked the first two Magical Trevors but this one isn't nearly as good. It's the not the fault of the animation, which is really great. I just didn't think the lyrics to the song were very good. In fact, it seemed like the animation (and all the extra jokes) were trying to make up for the song.

Disturbing but funny

3/5

It's sick and twisted but I like it. I get the feeling it's one of those animations where somebody took the audio from another source and animated to it. Because the sound is much better than the animation. But it's still good and funny and weird and very, very wrong.

Good, but not perfect

3/5

There's a lot of good stuff here. The animation is very good for the most part and pretty close to the Batman animated series style. Although the characters look a bit too angular and their movements are choppy.

The music is appropriate for the most part and the sound effects are decent. The Batman voice is surprisingly good, but the Joker's needs work. Some echoes on his last laugh would be good - otherwise it just sounds like some kid laughing into his microphone.

I won't comment much on the story because I'm not well versed in Batman lore. Guy falls into acid, becomes the Joker - close enough for me. It's kind of short, but it's good for what there is. I would like to see more of these from you. Good work.

Good, but what were you going for here?

3/5

First off, I really liked the sound effects. Great explosions, gunfire, etc. But the lack of music hurts - even a simple pulse-pounding rhythm would have helped to create some much-needed tension here.

As for the graphics, I don't know what you were trying to go for. The 2-D and 3-D styles didn't mesh well, and everything seemed very flat to me. Not a lot of detail. Some more detail and realism would help create some atmosphere to the film.

One thing you could try is to keep everything 2-D, except the robot. This way, the backgrounds remain consistent, and only the robot feels like it doesn't belong (which it doesn't, because they're invading the city, right?)

Not much of a story, but it's clear and understandable. When you have a plot like this it's the style that really counts. But your style needs some work. There's a GREAT film under here if you keep working on it.

Nice animation but the humor is kind of old...

I don't do reviews very often but here goes...

4/5

I really liked the animation. Very smooth and the designs were great, even Irving himself. I liked how he clashed with everything else - it was like he came in from another cartoon altogether.

The story wasn't anything original, although I don't think it's ever been done with bees. It wasn't bad, just done before. Nothing was really "laugh out loud" until the very end. "I've never been happy." That had me cracking up.

Keep up the good work!

Good sound, poor art and animation

My first review, but who cares :)

I thought it worked well as a teaser, and the sound was pretty good. But the art and animation left a lot to be desired. Very jerky animation and the sprites didn't look too good either. Hopefully the final product will look much better.

AngelnX responds:

Oh yea i know i just need more time to work on it. its very difficult making sprites similar to the real sprites from punch0out, but hey, the final cut will be the best!

I'm a ridiculously talented cartoonist, writer, and semi-professional filmmaker who uses none of that talent while working at a grocery store.
